SMA Strategies

Heartland Composites have outpaced their respective benchmarks over the 5-, 10-year and since inception periods, as of 3/31/12.*

Heartland's products include five separately managed account strategies, which follow the same disciplined investment process defined by Heartland's long-established 10 Principles of Value Investing™

The Small Cap Value Strategy

This strategy seeks long-term capital appreciation by investing in micro-and small-cap companies, generally with market capitalizations of less than $2.5 billion at the time of purchase. The micro- and small-cap segment of the stock market is robust with thousands of publicly traded issues, many of which lack traditional Wall Street research coverage. Thus, we believe this market is often inefficient, mispricing businesses and offering opportunities for fundamental research-minded investors such as Heartland.

The Small Cap Value Plus Strategy

This strategy primarily invests in companies that have a market capitalization between $250 million and $4 billion, with a majority of its assets invested in companies that pay dividends. The Strategy intends to capture the long-term appreciation of small-caps, while minimizing the volatility of returns inherent in the small-cap market.

The Mid Cap Value Strategy

This strategy has the objective of long-term capital appreciation by investing in companies with market capitalizations between $1 and $10 billion. Mid-cap companies have historically outperformed larger firms, yet were less volatile than their smaller counterparts. They generally have established business strategies, greater financial flexibility and proven operating histories. This focused portfolio seeks companies with strong underlying business franchises that have temporarily fallen out of favor, and can be purchased at a discounted valuation.

The Opportunistic Value Equity Strategy

This strategy seeks to capture long-term capital appreciation by investing in companies with market capitalizations greater than $500 million. The Strategy's dynamic pursuit of value irrespective of market capitalization positions it as a core holding for investors.

The Core Plus Strategy

The Core Plus Strategy is a diversified portfolio of dividend paying stocks of all market capitalizations blended with high quality fixed income securities. It seeks to manage downside risk while providing capital appreciation.
